Mica Designs
 Mica
is a natural mineral that you probably have seen in a sheet form
where it consists of many thin layers. Mica comes in
numerous compositions and is found on every continent of our
planet. It is very heat resistant and clear versions of
mica were commonly used as view ports into equipment working at
several thousand degrees (F).
We use mica that has been ground into powder and that can
handle the 1500F temperatures we work with.
Mica itself isn't particularly durable from a maintenance or traffic
viewpoint, but since we enclose it completely in glass it will probably
last forever.
